Paul hits the nail on the head when he says item #1 (producing SEVEN shows a year) often leaves little time to accomplish item #2. However, if there are volunteers out there who want to incorporate more "arts education" activities under the CCS umbrella, it is unlikely the CCS board of directors would stand in the way of implementing any such activity. The more people who actively volunteer their services to an organization, the stronger it becomes.

I've read about a half dozen books on directing over the past few years, so I'm certainly no expert. But the two that I will publicly plug are "Directing the Action" by Charles Marowitz and "Creating Life on Stage" by Marshall W. Mason. There are some very interesting "takeaways" from these two books, even for directing at the community theater level.

And if you are interested in directing at CCS next season... Please don't be shy about telling us!

Good thoughts. While CCS is not a business in the layman's sense, it can certainly learn a thing or two from the preeminent entertainment companies...like Disney.

Not sure how dramatic the stage adaptation of Catch Me If You Can is, but that might be a possibility. I assume it is probably more geared towards the comedic side of the film.

Auditioning---I see no difference and/or marginal benefit from individual auditions.

Rehearsals---That would be fine if those readthroughs were well utilized to diagnose character, story intricacies, hidden messages, etc.

Not sure what is meant by "bastardization of Stanislavski"....I think it can be argued that without Strasberg (and Elia Kazan) there is no American method.

Generally, I interpret "method" acting as the approach rather than the product. I suppose with the proper approach (method) an individual can find a way to reach Level 3 in the above. However, the true thesis here is that reaching level 3 takes innate qualities and/or emotions. My understanding of method acting is that a character can still be created without innate qualities or emotions.

Good distillation of Strassberg's acting theory, and very appropriate for film acting. But keep in mind that Strassberg was a slight bastardization of Stanislavsky. There's room for a little Meyerhold (biomechanics... theatrical movement) to be interwoven to theatrical acting as well.
